a little more about me

06 / 10 / 2016

After this past five year transition period of going from a single-something, renter, beloved dog owner to full on wife, home owner, stay-at-home parent, and ever the beloved dog owner, I thought I would take a brief snap in time about who I am at this moment. Here are 21 Questions About Me, just because I love these kinds of lists.

1. What is your middle name? I have two, post-wedding, Marian- named for my paternal grandmother who is from Nottingham (think Maid Marian), and Hesford- my mother's maiden name.

2. What was your favourite subject at school? Art and history. I loved the creativity of art class, and the storytelling of history.

3. What is your favourite drink? Hot chocolate. One of my (many) dreams would be to have a pop-up hot chocolate shop, where I could concoct different cocoa drinks to warm chilled customers on their way to wherever they were going.

4. What is your favourite food? This is the hardest question you could ask me, though if I had one last meal, it would be slow-cooked dry ribs with parmesan risotto, baked beans, seared lemon-zested brussel sprouts and homemade bread.

5. What was the last thing you bought? 'Oh She Glows Everyday' vegan cookbook at Costco today, though I think I may return it because so many of the recipes call for tree nuts, and Patt is allergic.

6. Favourite book of all time? 'Pride and Prejudice' by Jane Austen.

7. Favourite colour? A natural green

8. Do you have any pets? We have Lhotse, the most patient and loyal black dog a family could ask for.

9. Favourite perfume? None, though I add Rosemary oil to my shampoo, that gives it a rich, minty scent.

10. Favourite holiday? Christmas! It's always been my favourite, but more so since Juliette was gifted to me on that day a couple of years ago.

11. Are you married? Yes, which still seems strange to say. It adds a different dynamic to our relationship that seems solid and connected.

12. Have you ever been out of the country, if so how many times? Yes. I've travelled through the United States a handful of times, and to Europe five times, though most often I travel around Canada.

13. Do you speak any other languages? Sadly no. A couple phrases in French and Spanish.

14. How many siblings do you have? Two! My sister Sarah, and brother Christopher, who after moving around extensively growing up have both made their home in Calgary alongside me.

15. What is your favourite shop? I would say my destination shops these days are The Livery Shop in Inglewood, and Steeling Home on 17th Avenue, and Stonewaters Home Elements in Canmore.

16. Favourite Restaurant? For a meal with my love Model Milk for their Sunday Supper, and for take out Spicy Hut for their pad thai, dumplings, and crispy fried chicken.

17.  Most recent aspirations? To make pottery to sell again, to explore the outdoors with my girls more and more often, to curate a small shop online featuring cozy home items, and to hold community workshops so that I can meet interesting people who enjoy learning and experiencing as much as I do.

18. Favourite podcast? 99% Invisible by Roman Mars and Stuart McLean's Vinyl Cafe

19. Favourite movie? 'White Christmas' for nostalgia's sake.

20. Can you cook? Yes, and I love it. I can't wait to share recipes on here with you.

21. Why Wild Fir Tree? The name evokes for me the spirit of who I am to the core- northern, resilient, beautiful, home, natural, sturdy yet untamed.
